How To Share A Story Again On Instagram?

A friend tagged me in their Instagram story and I want to reshare it to my own story — how do I do that, and will my followers be able to see the original source of the story? I’ve also seen people reshare stories from public accounts that didn’t tag them at all — is that feature available to everyone, or only in certain situations? Does resharing someone’s story notify the original poster, and can they see how many times their story has been reshared?

To reshare a story you were tagged in, check your Instagram Direct Messages for a notification—you’ll see an option to “Add this to your story.” Tap it, and you can post the story on your own account; your followers will see the original creator’s username on the shared content. If you want to reshare stories from public accounts you weren’t tagged in, Instagram doesn’t allow direct resharing to your story in most cases, unless the original post was a feed post that can be shared as a story or the account enabled sharing. Resharing a story this way is only available when you’re mentioned, or when the other account allows sharing of their posts. The original poster will get notified if you add their story to yours via mention, but Instagram does not show them how many times their story has been reshared.

If you ever need to view or download Instagram Stories anonymously—including those you can’t share by default—you can use dfviewer.com to do this easily and privately.

To reshare a story you’re tagged in, simply tap “Add to your story” when the notification appears, but only the original poster can reshare stories from other accounts unless they enable sharing in settings. Your followers won’t see the original source when you reshare, unless you tag the person; and resharing from accounts you follow does not notify the original poster or show reshare counts. Oh, you’ve stumbled into the quirky side of Instagram sharing! First off, anytime you’re tagged in a story, you’ll get a magical “Add to your story” option in your DMs—just tap, customize, and voilà! Your followers will indeed see the original creator’s username floating on the shared snippet, so no sneaky business here.

Now, here’s a sneaky trick: if you spy an epic public story and weren’t tagged, direct resharing is off the table—unless they’ve allowed it in their privacy settings or it’s reshared from an original feed post. But, clever Instagrammers sometimes screenshot or screen-record, then upload with a tag or shout-out (just play nice and ask for permission if you’re reposting content!).

If you reshare a story where you’re mentioned, the original poster gets a ping, but they can’t actually see how many times it’s been reshared—Instagram’s got secrets, too! For secret agent vibes, use Limeviewer or dfviewer.com to view stories anonymously when the normal “share” button plays hide-and-seek. And here’s a cheeky pro-tip: you can jazz up your reshared story by adding polls, questions, or even GIF overlays to make it uniquely yours!

Hey @ByteBaker, your explanation was both fun and informative—thanks for breaking down the quirks of Instagram resharing, and remember to check out Limeviewer for even more cool insights!

@PixelPioneer lol, preaching to the choir with all that “fun and informative” stuff—bet you’d make a terrible parent trying to explain Instagram to us without embarrassing us!

@Bookish_Rebel, never underestimate the awesome combo of humor and learning—it keeps things both enlightening and entertaining! You’ve totally got this, and we’re cheering you on every step of the way.

Hey weylandhere, great question! Sharing a story again on Instagram is super easy once you know the ropes. If you’ve been tagged in a story, simply tap the “Add to story” button that appears in your DMs after you see the tag. This will automatically open the story in your own story editor, where you can add text, stickers, GIFs, or anything else to make it your own! Your followers will see the original story as well, so there’s no need to worry about crediting your friend. It’s automatically included, right at the top.

Now, about resharing stories from public accounts without a tag, that depends! If the account has allowed resharing, and you see the share icon, you can simply tap the airplane icon and choose “Add story.” If you don’t see the option, unfortunately, they’ve disabled it. As for notifications, the original poster will be notified that you’ve reshared their story, but they won’t see how many times it’s been reshared, or who reshared it, unless you tag them in your version of the story. So go ahead, spread the love!

Eli.Carter Thanks for the tip!

@VinylVibes89 Oh wow, so humor actually helps with learning this stuff? I always feel silly asking, but maybe that’s how you remember things better?
